What fun is it to have a little weiner dog if we don't humiliate her on Halloween?

Hello friends. So sorry for my absence. Homeschooling, dance classes, church activities, cleaning my house, oh, and lets not forget cleaning up dog pee (of course the highlight of my day)... have had me stretched to my limit these days.
I really look forward to those times during the week when I have a little bit of time to sit down and write a blog post. I have so many quilting and sewing projects stacked up in my brain that I can't wait to share with you. But they will have to wait until I have the time I'm afraid. So, today I'd like to share with you some things that I made last year. Last year my sister in-law and I decided to open up a little boutique in my teeny town. It was so fun! And was filled with handmade homey goodness. We painted the walls and took down florescent lighting in favor of lots of shabby chic chandeliers. And had lots quaint painted furniture. We always had wonderful soft music playing and our store smelled so good thanks to the handmade body care products that my sis in-law makes. After nearly a year in business, we decided to close. It just got to be too much. It was a bit of a challenge to balance homeschooling my girls and running a business. I should also mention that WE MADE EVERYTHING in the store. I know, sounds crazy, and it was crazy. But, I have to say I am missing it. I especially enjoyed making baby things. Here's a small sampling.
We had lots of chenille backed baby blankets and bibs.
I love these cushy chenille backed baby blankets.
And soft cloth diaper burp cloths.
And bib and burp cloth sets of course.
We also had lots of poofy tutus.
I also made handbags and totes.
There were also little whole cloth baby quilts, where the design was entirely in the fabric. Simple and pretty.
We had the most fun at Christmas time I think. We had a beautiful tree and our shelves stocked with all of our hard work. I loved watching our lovely shoppers gather handmade items in their arms while listening to Bing Crosby in the background.
I wish you guys could have visited our little store. I know you would have totally gotten what we were trying to do. It was always so nice to hear encouraging words from ladies who 'got it'. And not so lovely when people would say, "This is How Much?" And then mumble something about being able to get that at Walmart for $5.
So I've been thinking of opening a new little boutique, on Etsy this time. That way I could make things at my own pace when time allows and not interfere with educating my children... and cleaning up dog pee. What do you guys think? x

There is no gift in my opinion, better than something that your grandma made just for you. I have wonderful things that my grandma's have made for me that I treasure. And my mom is carrying on the handmade tradition for my girls. She recently sent these sock monkeys.
My girls were so exited to open this box! Not only did my mama make them each a special monkey, but made them each a hat and scarf. And check out the kooky babies she found for them at the Wal Marts. They kind of creep me out a bit.... I think it's the eyes.
Aaaahhhhh! They're coming to get me! ...with their wee beady eyes...
These monkeys are great pals. Meet Mister Monkey, and Martha. Oh, and the little creepy monkeys have names too, Mister Mister Monkey, and Marlys. Little sis is always creative with the names. When she was 4 and she made her first bear at Build-A-Bear Workshop, she named her bear...Build-A-Bear Workshop. Then she went through a phase where she would name her stuffed animals things that she would just make up, like her cat Killik. She would think real hard to make up something original. A couple of years ago she named her Easter Bunny....wait for it....she thought she made this up.... Crap. People would lean down to her and say, "Oh what a nice bunny! What did you name it?" "Crap". Then there was her dear sweet animal "Ovary". Ooooh good times.
I love Mister Monkey's beret.
And Martha's hat too. She has to keep her little noggin warm.
They each have their own style.

One of my favorite things that my grandma made for us grandkids were her special slippers. She called them t.v. slippers. They were cushy and warm and she would let us pick out the colors we wanted. I recently searched online and found a pattern for slippers that look just like grandma's!
One of the things I love about these slippers is that you use good old Red Heart yarn. Nothing fancy. So they hold up well and are inexpensive to make. As I stitch these in the evening I feel close to my grandma, and know that I will make lots these for my future grandbabies.

It's Zeke! He wants some slippers too. Isn't he adorable? I found him and his sister Claire, (who is hiding) on Etsy. The fabulous Lori makes lots of great creatures to adopt. I couldn't resist his little face.
I can't wait to finish this first pair of slippers. Just like grandma would have made. It's the little things like this that make me feel at home. x
I'm almost finished with my cottages for the swap. As I was sewing the last bits onto this one I noticed it was not matching up...at all. Apparently, I cut the roof way to short. So I did what any other gal would do when she knew time was running out and she HAD to get these cottages done and in the mail!
I made my mistake into a little mini cottage quilt. I had to, it made me do it. And then, because now I REALLY had to get these Christmas cottages done...
I made a little Halloween one. I couldn't help myself. So then I decided to get going on what I was supposed to be doing. And made a few more Christmas ones. I should finish up today and get these in the mail tomorrow! Unless I mess up again...
And here's what I see out the window this morning as I take my pictures. I love it when it's foggy. And I love seeing the trees starting to change for fall.
And here's our snuggly little hot dog princess. Cozy in her bed by the fire.
Look at her! Her body is so long she looks like a cinnamon roll.
