My girls, my Step-Mama, and I just got back from a road trip to Washington. We went to visit family up there. The occasion? A new baby cousin. Sweet as can be. We had an absolute blast. I took 830 pictures while we were there. 830! Let's see if I can narrow them down to a precious few, so you can get a feel of our wonderful trip.
First off, I finished the baby quilt. It was so busy with the 30's reproduction fabrics that I decided not to add the little sleeping animal appliques that I had planned on.
I decided to add fluffy white chenille for the backing. This quilt is so thick and cushy and soft. I quilted it on a grid pattern. Down each seam line and then down the middle of each block. I was going to meander it but it was too thick!
I wasn't sure what to use for the binding. The quilt is SO busy and bright. As I auditioned each color to use for the binding, nothing seemed to bring it all together. Each color just added more crazy brightness. Until I pulled out this brown polka dot fabric. It calms it down just a bit.
The baby shower was so fun, because the baby is already here!
This was the cutest gift idea. My Aunt attached baby clothes to a clothes line, with sizes ranging from newborn to 1 year. And it was all wrapped in a cute pink hamper.
After the shower my girls spent the rest of the day swimming. They swam and swam and swam.
We had so much fun with funny little cousins.
And so much fun with sweet furry friends.
My Uncle has a beautiful garden.
My Aunt and Uncle have a gorgeous view from their back yard.
After a long day of visiting and swimming, we went to the Huff and Puff (which has been there forEVER) for ice cream. Then went for a drive where my s-mama showed us the sights from her childhood.
Worth the wait.
One of the best parts of the trip is staying at Grandma J's house. It is the exact same as when it was built in the 70's. Same shag carpet, same light fixtures, same furniture. My girls love it! And they love going into the back room to find the old toys. Look what big sis found and fell in love with.
The next day before we let the girls jump into the pool, my uncle asked us if we'd like to take the sweet doggy Sadie to the river so she could cool off. "Sure!" we say enthusiastically. Somehow I ended up driving this.
That's me. Hilarious. I've never driven one of these before, but it was surprisingly easy! And SO fun. My s-mama and one of my babies hopped on the back and we were off to the river! My uncle hopped in a go-cart with my other baby and led the way.
Here we go! Weeeeee!
Driving around this big field was so fun, and so pretty. And we even got to stop to pick cherries along the way.
After letting the pooch swim in the river and drive around some more, we went back to the house for more swimming and visiting. We had such a wonderful time, and can't wait to come back for our next visit.
I took these next pictures as we were leaving for home. I'll miss this beautiful small Washington town.
We had a lovely drive home. Lots of chatting, lots of laughing, lots of new memories. Two very tired, quiet girls.
We arrived home to a very exited Rosie, and a handsome smiling Daddy who got to hear all about our trip.
I think they missed us. x
