Look at this tiny girl! This is what I spent hours hand stitching the other day. Both of my girls fell in love with this little dog, which means I get to make another one. It'll be fun, I think I should have a Bette Davis marathon while I work on the next one.
Please say hello to my new love. On the design wall is my new summer quilt in the making.
I've been wanting to make a quilt out of vintage sheets from the 60's and 70's. The tough part is finding old sheets at thrift stores that are in good shape. After a bit of searching I found some fat quarter sized bundles of them on Etsy in pink, green, blue and yellow. I really want to showcase these great prints so I cut my squares at 10 1/2 inches. 7 across and 7 down. I'm so exited about this quilt!
This pink carnation print is my favorite of the whole bunch. Most of the sheets are a cotton/poly blend. A precious few are a nice crisp 100% cotton. These carnation lovelies is one of them.
All of these summer colors reflect what I see out of my sewing room window. They remind me of warm days and cool summer nights, screen doors and campfires at the river.
I hope to get this quilt finished soon. I really want to sleep under it on our camping trips this summer.
And now for a few more photos of the teeny doggy. She hasn't a name yet, any suggestions?
When I finished stitching her, she was just screaming for a flower in her hair. And some pearls. Such a little lady she is.
I am really enjoying my summer sewing. Is anyone else humming The Brady Bunch theme song? x

OMG, that quilt is going to be so awesome! How cute is that little dog! How about Chocolate for a name? :) Thanks for sharing all this goodness & inspiration!

Sarah, you are an artist!! This little super cute dachshund is adorable. I can imagine how much work it was to create "Mrs Boyle". She is absolutely lovely and I understand that both of the girls want to have one.
And the fabrics you found for the quilt are so yummy, refreshing, clean, beautiful and light! Just perfect for summer!
Hugs,
Sabine

Oh my Lord, do you know that this quilt was the first thing I thought of this morning, the spring quilt is too heavy this time of year, but something like this would be perfect, Imagine my surprise when I opened my reader and saw it looking back at me!? It looks marvelous and now I simply MUST make one!
ps - With those giant pearls, I think the dog should be named Wilma.

Loving the quilt! I've been wanting to make one like it for so long, but haven't got the guts to cut up my sheets! The little doggie is so adorable, I think she should be named Camille.

Thanks for showing the vintage sheet quilt. I found the very same deep pink with yellow and white flowers the other day! Woo-hoo! I'm on the hunt for more. Thursday is the 1/2 price day at our thrift store so I am heading out to check out the bargain textiles.

Oh she is cute!
I'm thinking it should start with a "D", like
Dolly, Dixie, Demi, The Dachshund.
Your quilt is going to be so wonderful!
You are very inspiring.

I love how your vintage sheet quilt looks! I have a few vintage sheets but I feel like I need a few more to make a quilt with them. Maybe I will just do a simple patchwork like you. It is lovely with all those florals!

I think she looks like a Delilah.

I'm so freakin' jealous! I've been collecting vintage sheets and I don't have anything nearly as exciting as you! If you would like to swap some FQ's let me know because I'd be game :o)

GREAT sheets - I wish I could find such pretty, good ones.
As to the doggie - I vote for Lily or Petunia, since you already have Rosie.
